Why is Philadelphia seen as Negative?
A Franchise is Hatched
The Philadelphia Eagles are one of footballs oldest and most historic
franchises in football history. The Eagles have called Philadelphia home since
1933. According to Sports
Ecyclopedia,
"When Bert Bell established his NFL franchise in
Philadelphia in 1933, the country was struggling to recover from the Great
Depression. New president Franklin D. Roosevelt had introduced his 'New Deal'
program through the National Recovery Administration, which had the Eagle as
its symbol. Since Bell hoped his franchise also was headed for a new deal, he
picked Eagles as the team name."
Have they had success?
The
Philadelphia Eagles are not only one of the oldest franchises, but one of the
most successful as well. Throughout their history the Eagles have made 23
playoff appearances, 12 division championships, 6 NFC championship games, and 2
Super Bowl appearances. Philadelphia has also won 3 NFL Championships in 4
appearances. Prior to the 1966 season, the NFL Championship was the ultimate
prize; this has since been replaced with the Super Bowl. Although there has
been continual success, and even a few appearances in the Super Bowl, the Eagles
have not been able to claim their spot as the best in the NFL since 1960. The inability to win a Super Bowl has made fans on edge and very angry when the team falls short.
